Diamond painting size guide
Size is the single biggest factor in how your finished piece looks — and how long it takes to make. Bigger canvases hold more drills, which means more detail and smoother faces. Here’s how to pick the right one the first time.
The short answer
For simple designs (a single flower, a logo, a bold animal), small-to-medium works beautifully. For portraits, pets and detailed scenes, go larger — detail lives in the drill count, and faces need room to look like themselves. For custom-from-photo pieces, we recommend 40×50cm or larger.

Why bigger = more detail
A diamond painting is made of a fixed grid of drills. Each drill is one “pixel” of colour. A larger canvas fits more drills into the same picture, so gradients look smoother and small features — eyes, whiskers, distant windows — actually resolve. On a small canvas, the same detailed photo has to be simplified, and faces can lose their likeness. That’s why we nudge portraits and custom photos toward 40×50cm and up.
Full drill vs partial drill
Our kits are full drill unless stated — the entire image is covered in drills for maximum sparkle and a finished, framed-art look. Partial drill kits cover only the subject over a printed background; they’re faster but less dazzling. If you want that gallery shimmer edge-to-edge, choose full drill.
Framing & display sizes
All our sizes — 30×40, 40×50 and 50×60cm rectangles plus 40×40 and 50×50cm squares — map neatly to common frame sizes, so you won’t need anything custom. Leave your piece unframed for a modern “floating” mount, or frame under glass to protect the surface long-term. Sealing first (a brush-on sealer) keeps drills locked and the sparkle bright for years.
